  "I want students to become aware of the historical roots of liturgy and its theological and anthropological meanings in order to bring Christian worship to life today. In my worship classes I deal with theological issues such as prayer, sacraments, the Trinitarian pattern of worship, the theological significance of music, the liturgical meanings of time and space. Students get a sense of liturgies as a whole, and of prevailing worship patterns."
   
 


Profile

Dr. Andrea Bieler directs worship at PSR that is both focal and formative for theological education and sensitive to its contextual and cross-cultural dimensions.

An ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, Germany, she brings experience in ritual studies, feminist theology, inter-cultural exchange, and Jewish-Christian dialogue to bear on her work as a worship leader and professor on the histories, theologies, and practices of Christian worship.

Personal Interests

"I just rediscovered my passion for cooking. I love to cook for my friends and want them to respond enthusiastically to what I serve them. I am also a hiker. Being at the ocean and climbing in the mountains gives me moments of deep gratitude for the beauty of this threatened planet. And, last but not least, you might see me from time to time entering the temple-like movie theatres in Berkeley or Oakland worshipping the Gods of Hollywood."
